WE PAINT!
While the construction technology we use allows us to use the carbon of our frames as a design element, we know that color is one of the key elements that give personality and style to a 3T bicycle. For this reason, we invest a lot of time in creating original graphics and selecting attractive paints and finishes.
Precisely because we know how much color contributes to defining the identity and character of our products, we started painting our frames in-house, at our Italian factory in Presezzo. Today, all 3T bicycle frames are painted in Italy.
With the introduction of the painting department and the WPNT artisanal painting program, we can finally proudly say that we control the process of creating our bicycles from start to finish, from design to color design.
IT ALL STARTS WITH THE TIRES
To design a fast bicycle, you need to start with the wheels. The choice of tires determines the comfort and grip of the wheel but also influences the aerodynamics and the design of the frame. To design the frame taking into account aerodynamics, it is necessary to know the REAL measurements of the tires. Not those reported on the label, but the actual ones. REALFAST aerodynamics means this: reality, not theory.
Testing and developing a bicycle based on reality is not easy because the dimensions and shape of the tires depend on the rim used, the pressure, and also the precision of the measurements declared by the manufacturer.
We therefore carried out hundreds of tests and measurements to know the real dimensions of the tires (which we define WAM - Width As Measured and RAM - Radius As Measured), and we finally used them to design the frame.
The Primo2 is designed to accommodate road, cyclocross, and gravel tires up to 45mm WAM. On even more challenging terrain, you can use 650b rims and even wider tires
up to 51mm WAM to maximize the bicycle's capabilities, grip, and comfort.
You can check here the maximum WAM and RAM usable for the Primo2.
REALFAST AERODYNAMICS
Aerodynamics makes a difference, even off-road.
You can easily realize this when you're riding on asphalt or smoother sections instead of climbing at moderate speeds. If the wind is head-on or crosswind, you're slow relative to your forward motion but you continue to be fast relative to the air moving around you, and that's precisely why aerodynamics is important.
The PRIMO² is also an excellent road bike in all respects. The reason is that we conceived, developed, and optimized it not only by testing it at 30 mph (48 km/h), the standard speed for road bikes, but also at a more realistic speed of 20 mph (32 km/h), which is closer to the pace you can maintain riding off-road on gravel, dirt roads, and single tracks.
We designed and refined the Sqaero shape by testing the bike with knobby tires and even dirty with mud.
SQAERO
The aerodynamic performance of the PRIMO² mainly has to do with the size and shape of its downtube. The 50x75mm dimensions with the truncated rear section of the Sqaero profile are the ideal solution not only to provide optimal rigidity to the structure but above all to guide the airflow coming from a wide front wheel.
Developing a full airfoil profile for the downtube starting from a width of 50mm, necessary to give continuity to the flow coming from the front wheel, would require a profile height of at least 150-200mm, a factor that would unfavorably increase surface resistance. Thanks to the truncated Sqaero shape, even water bottles remain protected from the airflow.
To optimize REALFAST aerodynamics across the entire platform, we also applied the Sqaero shape to the head tube, fork, seat tube, and seat stays.
Primo² vs RACEMAX, EXTREMA and ULTRA
RaceMax, Ultra, and Extrema all feature gravel-specific geometry. Our RaceMax was developed to be the best on fast gravel, where speeds are higher. The Extrema excels in fast adventures and the toughest gravel races, while Ultra combines tire clearance with optimized aerodynamics to handle the most challenging terrain.
The Primo frame features road-inspired geometry while allowing for excellent wheel and tire versatility. Ride your fastest days with 700c tires, then switch to 650b when adventure calls. Primo, your perfect all-rounder bike.
